You know how much I love cheesy titles to blog posts, and I couldn’t help myself. After many years of neglect, the amazing cast iron stairs of MarketHouse were closed in 2006. Plywood was used to cover the entrance to keep people from falling through the rusted out stairs. Well, over the course of 4 years, the plywood became weathered, the commercial side of the building went bankrupt, and there the stairs sat.
Then a guy and his dream came about! The rebirth of MarketHouse is the work of Lenny Russo and his fabulous restaurant “The Heartland”.
Anyway, back to the stairs. New stairs are being produced and from what I’ve been told they are using the original castings! The stairs should be back in action by the end of the month and will lead to a Farmers Direct Market run by Lenny and company. It’s not quite the indoor Farmers’ Market that almost was, but it’s darn close!

Any word on how business has been at “The Heartland”?
